This phone is live: it loads the real forecast for the spot, then judges it against your range.

Three questions, three tabs.

Wind apps show you numbers. OnWind adds them up. Your range, your sport, the shoreline you traced, daylight and the Bureau's warnings all go into one answer.

Where?

Every beach you've saved with its own live verdict, wind, shore relation and next window. Where to go, in one look.

A verdict in your terms

Set the wind you go out in and the gusts you don't. The app judges every spot against it, in daylight, onshore.

Thirteen sources, one number

Nine forecast models, the Bureau's stations and warnings, airports and more, blended with their spread shown honestly.

Forecast against actual

Yesterday's forecast drawn over what the station measured, over the last hour, four hours or day, so you can see how far to trust today's.

Tide, swell and warnings

Sea temperature, wave height, the tide curve under the hour grid, and marine wind warnings pinned where you can't miss them.

Alerts and session reminders

A wind alert on any spot, a heads-up when a session appears in the forecast, and a reminder two hours before it.

Widgets and the Lock Screen

The verdict, wind and next hours for your spot on the Home and Lock Screen, refreshed every half hour without opening the app.

It learns your spot

The forecast gets better the more you use it.

Every model's day-ahead forecast is scored against what the nearest station then measured, hour by hour. OnWind leans on the models that have been right at your spot and corrects the rest.

  • By wind direction and time of day. A model can be right in a southerly and five knots short in a sea breeze. Each is learned on its own.
  • Gusts and direction too, where the station reports them.
  • Recent weeks count most, so it follows the season.
  • Your sessions teach it. Overpowered on a sail good to 22 when the app said 18? Three rated sessions and the forecast at that beach shifts.
  • Saved spots keep learning in the background, and you can switch the tuning off to see the plain average.

Accuracy at Kurnell after 72 scored hours: models ranked by how far off they have been, and what it has learned: southerly afternoons read 7 knots low, north-east afternoons 5 knots low, the wind arrives 28 degrees clockwise of forecast
Track

Record the session. Share the ride.

Track always starts from where you are, with the wind there. GPS tracking with the screen off, a lock for the pouch, pause for rigging down. Your track coloured by speed on satellite, top speed and best ten seconds, and the wind that was blowing over the top of your speed graph.

  • Speak my speed. Your speed in your ear every minute, and straight away when you beat your best ten seconds
  • The map full screen, with the session's numbers over it and any point's speed, heading and time a tap away
  • Kit on every session. Wing, sail or kite, board, foil and mast, changed any time afterwards. Mark what you always ride and it fills itself in
  • Bring sessions in from an Apple Watch, Garmin, Strava or COROS through Health, or as a GPX or FIT file
  • A share card for the group chat, GPX export for Strava or Garmin, and tracks that never leave your phone

Performance

See what's working, session by session.

Every tracked session is worked through on the phone and kept: how fast, how far, how many turns, how long on the foil, how each take-off went, and which kit you were on, down to the mast track and the shim. Performance adds it up for the season, for one sport, or for one wing, board or foil, and shares the whole page as one picture.

The Performance page for a windfoil season: 98 km over 9 sessions, top speed 13 knots, 148 gybes and 29 tacks, and peak, best 10 seconds and average speed for every session in order
The season

Are you getting faster?

Distance, top speed, sessions and turns up top. Below them, peak, best ten seconds and average speed for every session in order, so progress shows as a line.

Take-off funnel across nine sessions: 153 attempts, 49 near-flights, 16 held flights, with the flight quality table beneath: flight share, median flight and run-up per session
Learning to fly

Attempts, near-flights, held

Every push up to speed, every run that nearly flew, every flight that held. The gap between the last two bars is the skill being learned, and the build-up time shows it shrinking.

A half-polar of best 5-second speed by angle off the wind, every session in grey and the fastest in colour, and a chart of the angle at which each near-flight started, peaking at 90 degrees

Where the speed comes from

Your best five seconds at every angle off the wind, session over session, and the angle at which your take-offs start. Upwind at the top, downwind at the bottom.

Your kit

Which set-up for today?

Sail, board and foil compared as you rode them together, with the wind each was used in. The Forecast tab turns this round: under each coming session, up to three set-ups ranked for that wind, from your own sessions.

Stops, water time and turns per session: full stops, swims, minutes in the water and speed kept through turns, then minutes building speed, nearly flying and flying, session by session
Between flights

Stops, swims and turns

Full stops after a near-flight, swims and the minutes spent in the water, and how much speed each fast turn kept. Then every session's minutes building speed, nearly flying and flying.

Each session

Where you flew, where you turned

A violet band where you were up on the foil. Coral dots for gybes, cyan diamonds for tacks. Tap anywhere on the line to read that moment, and every near-flight is listed with its angle and tack.

Speed results

The GPS speedsurfing categories for every session: 2 s peak, 5 × 10 s, 100 m, 500 m, nautical mile, the hour and Alpha 500. Your season best in each, one tap from the session that set it.

Time on the foil

Flights, time flying, the longest and the median flight, flight share and run-up, for wingfoil, windfoil or any session with a foil in it. Set each foil's take-off speed in your quiver and the rest follows.

Gybes and tacks, counted

Every change from one side of the wind to the other, judged against the wind measured at that moment: through downwind a gybe, through the wind a tack.

Upwind, downwind, port and starboard

Your best speed made good upwind and downwind, ground gained to windward, your speed at each angle off the wind, and which tack is your faster side.

Season milestones

Your fastest session, your longest, the most gybes, the most tacks, and the day you went fastest for the wind. Each one opens its session.

Filter by kit

Pick one wing, board or foil and every number, chart and table follows it, down to the wind it works best in.

Set-up on the day

Mast track position (1 is fully back, your board's highest number fully forward) and foil shim in degrees, asked for when a session is finished and starting from your last session on that kit. A different track or shim counts as its own set-up, so moving the mast shows up in the numbers.

Sessions from a watch or a file

An Apple Watch workout, or a Garmin, Strava or COROS session written to Health, comes in with one tap. GPX and FIT files can be picked or shared to OnWind. Imported tracks get the same analysis as recorded ones, with the wind on the day looked up.

Share any page as a picture

Now, Forecast, Spots, a session or the whole Performance page, captured top to bottom as one image, nothing but the picture, so it lands cleanly in any chat.

Where the numbers come from

OnWind reads published, permitted feeds and tells you which ones answered. Tick any source out of the blend; switch to a single source when you trust it.

  • Open-Meteo — nine global and regional forecast models, marine, tides and the day-before forecasts used for scoring
  • Apple Weather — Apple's own forecast through WeatherKit, one more model in the blend
  • Bureau of Meteorology — live station readings and marine wind warnings across Australia
  • Measured wind around the world — NOAA's coastal stations and buoys in the US, and the national services of Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Finland and Denmark
  • MET Norway, wttr.in and airport weather reports worldwide
  • Optional with your own key: WillyWeather, OpenWeatherMap, WeatherAPI, Tomorrow.io, Visual Crossing, Windy webcams

Honest by design

No account. Nothing to sign up for. Your range, spots, kit and tracks live on your phone.
The spread is shown. When thirteen sources say 2–10 knots, you see 2–10, not a false single number.
A forecast, not a promise. Every share card says so. Check the Bureau's coastal waters forecast before heading out.
Say what's wrong. A shared Issues and ideas board inside the app; every post is read.
