OnWind for iPhone and Android · FAISpace Pty Ltd, Sydney, Australia · Effective 19 September 2026, Android added 21 October 2026

OnWind has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. Almost everything you do in it stays on your phone. This page says exactly what doesn't, and why.

The short version

What stays on your phone

Saved spots, your wind range and rider details, your quiver, wind alerts and session reminders, traced shorelines, the accuracy record for each spot, your logbook, and every tracked session with its GPS points and speeds. Keys you add for optional weather services are kept in the iPhone's Keychain and never leave the device, including in backups. Deleting the app deletes all of it; More › Settings also has Clear buttons for each kind.

Location

OnWind asks for your location only while you use the app. It uses it to show the wind where you are and, when you press Start tracking, to record your session. Tracking continues with the screen off, with iOS's location indicator showing, until you press Finish. Your position and tracks are never sent to us. When a session is saved, the centre of the track and the day it was ridden are sent to the forecast service to look up the wind through the session, in the same way as any other spot. The measured wind comes from the nearest station's published readings.

Weather and map services your phone talks to

To show a forecast, your phone sends a spot's coordinates directly to the services below. As with any website, they also see your IP address. We don't receive these requests and can't see them.

The Home Screen widget does the same for the spot you last opened.

The Issues and ideas board

The board is public to everyone using the app. If you post, comment, vote or report, we store: the text you wrote, the nickname you chose, the app version, a random identifier created when the app was installed (it isn't your Apple ID, device ID or advertising ID, and it is never shown to anyone), and your IP address. The IP address is used only to limit abuse and is erased after 30 days. The board runs on Microsoft Azure in Australia. We don't link board activity to your identity, and we don't share it with anyone.

To have a post or comment removed, email onwind@faispace.com.au with your nickname and what it said. Don't post personal details there; it is a public noticeboard.

Sharing

Share cards, page pictures and GPX files are made on your phone and go only where you send them through the iOS share sheet.

Notifications

Wind alerts and session reminders are worked out on your phone and delivered as local notifications. Nothing is sent through a server.

OnWind for Android

Everything on this page applies to the Android app too, with these differences.

What we don't do

Children

OnWind isn't directed at children under 13, and the board shouldn't be used by them.

Your rights and how to complain

We handle personal information under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. You can ask what we hold about you (in practice, board posts) and ask us to correct or delete it: onwind@faispace.com.au. If you're not satisfied with our answer you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Board rules and terms of use

A forecast, not a promise

OnWind combines forecasts and observations from other services and can be wrong, late or unavailable. Wind sports are dangerous. Conditions, warnings and your own judgement on the day come first: check the official marine forecast and warnings before going out. To the extent the law allows, FAISpace isn't liable for decisions made using the app. Nothing here limits rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.

Changes

If this policy changes we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects what leaves your phone, the app will say so first.
